More than 4,500 flock to opening of new retro arcade bar in Notts

Penny Lane is drawing in the crowds with its selection of classic arcade-style games, including the Donkey Derby, pinball and claw machines.

THE OPENING weekend of Nottingham’s newest bar has been hailed as a huge success, with more than 4,500 people coming through its doors.

Penny Lane officially opened to the public on Friday (April 26) drawing in the crowds with its selection of classic arcade-style games, including the Donkey Derby, pinball and claw machines.

Michael Johnson, operations director at Penny Lane, said: “We have been thrilled with how the opening weekend has gone. People have really bought into the concept and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

“We feel the bar encapsulates the vibe of family holidays, summer trips and iconic piers, and everyone having a go on the games and enjoying the food seemed to fit that mood perfectly.

“The opening weekend itself was a roaring success, and we’re looking forward to showing people what Penny Lane is all about.”

More than 200 attended the bar’s preview night on Wednesday (24 April), sampling its seaside-inspired entertainment offering ahead of the official public opening.

Alongside the drinks and games, guests also had an opportunity to try out the bar’s menu, including Mr Whippy ice creams – a classic seaside favourite.

Daniel Kitchen, one of the preview night’s attendees, said: “I had a wonderful night at the preview event – there was a real buzz about the place and the games are a great touch.

“I really enjoyed the whole evening and it was great to have the opportunity to try the menu out. It is a great addition to city’s bar scene and I’ll definitely be coming back.”
